It's amazing how some people react to dangerous situations. An example of this is what is happening with the COVID-19 Coronavirus outbreak: many people are ignoring and downplaying a globally unprecedented situation.
Even with the evidence in hand or the warnings of health authorities in different countries, where they point out the recommendations, and dangers of exposure to the COVID-19 Coronavirus outbreak, it seems that they do not care at all.
An example of this is what is happening with the COVID-19 Coronavirus outbreak: many people are ignoring and downplaying a globally unprecedented event. Yet, even with the evidence in hand or the warnings of health authorities in different countries, where they point out the recommendations and dangers of exposure to the COVID-19 Coronavirus outbreak, it seems that they do not care at all.
At present, the world is paralyzed in the middle of a global pandemic which has traveled through five continents while increasing number of infections and deaths, just after three months in which the first case of this Coronavirus was detected in the Chinese city of Wuhan.
In China, it seems that the authorities were slow to assume the seriousness of the matter and in the rest of the world, almost nobody saw what was coming.
Even the situation in the first severely affected countries such as China, South Korea or Italy did not serve as an example. Authorities and citizens were slow to become aware of the problem posed by this global threat and mistakes have been repeated in different parts of the world, such as in Spain, one of those suffering from the effects of the coronavirus.
First mistake: ignoring a Chinese doctor who warned about the virus
This pandemic would probably have been stopped on time if the health authorities in that country had listened to the Chinese doctor Li Wenliang. He was the first to warn of the appearance of the deadly coronavirus in Wuhan in December 2019.
Instead of listening to him, a repudiation campaign was encouraged against him and an investigation was launched into his alleged "spreading rumors". Shortly thereafter, he died in February 2020 as a result of COVID-19. This was the first mistake, of many, that allowed this disease to evolve to the current level of the pandemic.
Second mistake: China did not react in time
The Wuhan authorities played down the calls for attention and alerts about the appearance of COVID-19, even daring to hold a banquet for 10,000 families with the simple aim of breaking a record. By the time they began isolating the virus, it had spread to other parts of China, reaching countries such as Thailand, Japan, and South Korea.
The virus what? No way, that's not gonna stop my wedding
Imagine a mass wedding, where about 6,000 people participated at the peak of the COVID-19 outbreak. Well, that's exactly what happened on February 20, 2020, in South Korea, where the Church of Jesus Shincheonji organized that celebration. It was logical that shortly afterward, the number of cases in that country skyrocketed.
This Coronavirus is not stopped by borders
Misfortune is looming over Italy. Although COVID-19 had already reached Europe through "imported cases", on 21 February 2020 the first infection without a link to China was detected in Italy. Surprisingly, the number of cases multiplied in northern Italy, where the whole area was supposed to be isolated, but trains continued to carry and bring hundreds of people.
As if that were not enough, the Italians knew about the Government's plans to put more than 16 million people in quarantine, causing a stampede where many people fled the region and spread the Covid-19 throughout the country.
Popular demonstrations, the perfect vehicle for the Covid-19
Date: March 8, 2020. Place: Madrid, Spain. A large group of people marched and celebrated on the occasion of International Women's Day. It is estimated that around 120,000 people gathered in various places in the city, which also accelerated the spread of the Coronavirus with possible carriers of the disease.
Beyond the concentration of people in public places, which triggered the exponential growth of the pandemic in Spain was the delay in the announcement of health measures by the Spanish state. Between indecision and the fear of generating a political cost, the number of infections began to grow alarmingly, especially in Madrid, where many called for the closure of the capital, a measure that was not adopted on time.
No matter how many health measures are imposed, there will always be the social misfits
It is necessary to make a just recognition, to all those people who have remained in their homes, fulfilling the forced confinement.
But, inexplicably, there has been some irresponsible acts on the part of people, who resist following the orders on quarantine. Perhaps by not resisting the confinement or simply going against the orders of the authorities, some people have been caught in the street, eventually contributing to the spread of the epidemic. Or even worse, as has happened during the spring break in Miami, United States, where young college students are not taking seriously the true risk of contracting this disease.
What were other mistakes made around the world?
